Learning Program Description:
Offered in partnership with the Department of Justice Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division, this program addresses:
- The various federal statutes that may apply when an IG agent investigates an allegation of sexual misconduct.
- Best practices when conducting a trauma-informed interviews and documenting a victim interview, with the goal of protecting the victim’s account from unfair impeachment, while rebutting common potential defenses.
- Corroborating the victim’s account and foreclosing the common defense that the victim is lying but using the Federal Rules of Evidence to build a strong case even where there is no physical evidence or independent eyewitnesses.
- Understanding DNA and SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) reports, and working with the experts behind those reports.
- Strategic considerations for non-compelled subject interviews.
Who Can Attend: The target audience for this event is OIG investigations personnel, but it is open to all OIG personnel.
Registration: Registrations will be accepted from CIGIE-member Training Officers.
